Counselling

Great question; it all depends on why you are here with us. A good suggestion is to book at least 3 sessions. The first, to get to know your therapist and see if you feel comfortable; the second session, to set a goal/goals and plan what you would like to see changed in your life; the third session, to start the work. As an aside to this, you’re always welcome to book more sessions, especially since our availability can be limited or you have certain scheduling needs.

Again, we’re glad you asked. It’s a really difficult answer to give as it depends on your goals, but generally plan at least 8-10 sessions to see some results. Results will generally look like lower levels of stress, increased ability to manage life, feeling more present in your relationships and at work, and feeling things are getting a little easier to manage.

First responders are regularly exposed to a wide range of experiences and situations that can deeply impact their emotional and physical well-being. At The Shop, we offer services for first responders such as EMDR and trauma counselling in a dedicated space with Richard, who has prior experience as a first responder and understands these situations. Counselling for first responders at The Shop can help prevent further buildup of traumatic and stressful impacts on both the body and mind.

Whatever you want! The session is designed for you to set goals and work at your pace. Your therapist will support you, provide effective strategies, and provide an environment where you can truly be yourself.

Welcome! You just took the first step; we’re looking forward to meeting you. Come as you are—truly—no need to change out of work clothes, look a certain way, or be a certain way. Your therapist will ask you questions about your life, your story, the things that are working well in your life, and the things you would like to change. This will also be your chance to ask your therapist questions about his approach, his experience, and his take on things.

This can happen and that’s OK—having a good connection with your therapist is one of the most important parts of counselling. We work closely with other therapists at The Shop and in our community that we can refer you to.

We offer a free 15-min phone consultation—you can ask whatever you like and your therapist will do their best to answer them all. If you have questions about billing, funding, or appointments, The Shop has a fantastic admin team. You can contact them anytime here.
