When He Pulls Away: A Guide for Partners of Struggling Men
Why do men pull away when they face mental health challenges? We go over why in this guide for partners of struggling men.
The Shop Counselling is run by a registered clinical counsellor who specializes in counselling for men and first responders who can do work and get work done.
The Shop was created to meet men where they are. Many men face unique pressures when it comes to expressing emotion, asking for help, or navigating major life transitions. At The Shop, we offer a space designed to feel natural, comfortable, and real; a place where honesty is encouraged and vulnerability is respected.
Our work supports men and first responders who are dealing with trauma, stress, anxiety, addiction, and relationship challenges using practical tools and evidence-based approaches. Sessions are paced thoughtfully, focused on real conversations and strategies that can be applied outside the therapy room.
Richard’s background as a volunteer firefighter and former trade worker shapes much of The Shop’s philosophy. He understands the reality of high-stress environments, exposure to trauma, and the impact these experiences can have on identity, relationships, and mental health. Combined with his role as a stepfather, this lived experience allows him to connect authentically with men from a wide range of backgrounds.
At its core, The Shop is about creating meaningful, lasting change, helping men build self-awareness, resilience, and healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges.
